FLAMBOROUGH HEAD
Группа из Голландии.В начале 90х, талантливый клавишник Edo Spanninga поместил объявление в местной прессе о наборе музыкантов в прог группу. На объявление откликнулись ударник Koen Roozen и его друг басгитарист Marcel Derix. Это трио стало исполнять прогрок, чуть позже к группе присоединился клавишник и вокалист Siebe Rein Schaaf а так же гитарист
Andre Cents.
Название группы кажется странным. В Англии есть красивейшее место и утёс Flamborough Head (фото утёса с обратной стороны обложки на первом диске)
На ферме у барабанщика музыканты соорудили частную студию,и в течении 2х лет репетировали. Там же они записали демо 'Legend of the Old Man Tree' , в последствии выпущенную фирмой Циклопс под другим (Bridge To The Promised Land') названием в 2000 году. Эти песни делались для себя, т.е. для личного использования и поэтому представляют интерес только для настоящих фанов группы.
В марте 1996 года группа впервые отправилась в концертное турне с группой Jadis (для тех, кто не знает поясняю, это проект Мартина Орфорда (клавишник IQ) и Джона Джоввита ( бас-гитаристIQ, Arena). Концерты прошли на ура, и очень многим любителям прогрока понравилась эта своеобразная группа. Критика отнеслась к Flamborough Head более чем благосклонно.
У группы появились фаны, которые просили о выпуске диска.
С группой связались представители британской фирмы Циклопс и заключили с ними контракт.
В марте-октябре 1997 года был записан просто замечательнейший диск "Unspoken Whisper", который фирма Циклопс выпустила в 98м.
Диск получил положительные отзывы, как в прессе, так и у критиков. Вот цитатата :

Читатели журнала Wonderous Stories признали Flamborough Head. Лучшей группой 1998 года.

В 2000 году был выпущен настоящий шедевр, диск "Defining The Legacy" Но…..
Сразу же группу покадает чудо вокалист и клавишник Siebe Rein Schaaf. Со слов Сиебе он не может совмещать концертные турне, репетиции с семейной жизнью. Очень жаль!!!!
Понимая, что без этого чудо вокалиста группа вряд ли выкарабкается уходят ВСЕ оригинальные участники коллектива. Остаётся только клавишник, который набирает новый состав. Я не хочу даже говорить о ЭТОМ составе. Скажу что на вокале баба с препротивнейшим вокалом. Если в первых двух дисках этого(ну просто великолепного) коллектива прямо таки витал дух Genesis, Marillion & Pink Floyd, то сейчас это подлое подобие отвратительнейшей группы РЕНЕСАНС, которую каким то не понятным образом причислили к прогроку.

In the early nineties keyboardplayer Edo Spanninga was looking for musicians to write and play prog music. Koen Roozen (Drums) responded to an ad in a local musicshop, and he came up with bass player Marcel Derix. For one year this band played instrumental progmusic. Later on Siebe Rein Schaaf joined the band as the vocalist/keyboardplayer and Andre Cents on guitar.
We named the band after Flamborough Head, a cliff on the eastcoast of England. We chose the name because we hope our music is as outstanding, rising and impressive as the cliffs of Flamborough Head.
These five musicians built a private rehearsal/8 track studio at the "Harmsdobbe", the farmyard campsite of our drummer Koen Roozen. For two years we wrote, rehearsed and recorded some tracks, which we released on our demo 'Legend of the Old Man Tree' (this demo was released by Cyclops in the year 2000 as Bridge To The Promised Land' - Cyclub 009). The soundquality of the demo was mediocre, but as it was mainly for private use there was no problem (We distributed the demo on a very small scale). Background Magazine wrote about the demo: "The balance between keyboards and energetic guitar licks is excellent. The songs are about six to seven minutes long, with the right changes in mood and spheres. This is the kind of true progressive rock I think BM readers would like to hear". In March 1996 we were ready to do our first gig at "De Lantaarn" in Hellendoorn/Holland as supportact of the English band Jadis. The reactions were very positive: "The first gig of Flamborough Head, did show the experience the band members brought along from their long musical life." (Symphel Website). All our gigs were well received, a lot of people liked our music and asked for a cd. Therefore we contacted several recordlabels. The British proglabel Cyclops was interested and contracted Flamborough Head. Between March and October 1997 we've recorded the music for our first cd called "Unspoken Whisper", which Cyclops released in the beginning of 1998. Here are some quotes from the press: "Finally we've got a real symphonic masterpiece from Holland", "This is a very impressive debut from the Dutchmen. Obviously with Holland’s pedigree is progressive music, they are in good company; but nevertheless this is still head and shoulders above a lot of music produced at the moment. The band is tight and very solid, and throw in flash solos with unabashed professionalism. There is no over-blown showing off here though – solos are there as and when the songs need something extra. For a debut album this is really impressive". See our press page for more reviews on our debut. The readers of Wonderous Stories, the magazine of the Classic Rock Society in Rotherham, England, awarded Flamborough Head as the "Best New Band" in the 1998 contest. As a result we were invited by the Classic Rock Society to gig at their Rotherham venue on October 31 1999. In the annual poll of the DPRP-website we were voted second best (together with Ad Infinitum) in the same category. In April 1999 the German prog-website Die Ultimative Review Page fuer Progrock released their second Progressive DisDURPance Sampler Vol.2 featuring Flamborough Head (amongst others) with their track Heroes taken from Unspoken Whisper. The Argentinian progmagazine Mellotron included our track Xymphonia on their Mellotron Sampler no. 21.
In the summer of 2000 Siebe Rein Schaaf decided to leave our band Flamborough Head. He couldn't combine his private life with the band any longer. His farewell gig was at Progfarm 2000. During the recording sessions of "Defining The Legacy" Andre Cents noticed a growing musical difference between the band and himself, he also decided to leave the band. "Defining The Legacy" was also received very well. The Dutch progzine IO-Pages reviewed the album as outstanding ("vette krent") and all other major magazines around the world reviewed "Defining The Legacy"
in a positive way. Again some quotes: "Defining the legacy" is a big step for FLAMBOROUGH HEAD. The personal concept story deals with a relationship between a father and his son leading to a dramatic and highly alive album. Of course the keyboards of Siebe and Edo (again) are the dominating element of their music, the guitar gives solid and important companionship. With this album FLAMBOROUGH HEAD have delivered a highlight ... they sound better, more mature, more varied, more complex, more sophisticated and more dramatic than ever before. / Defining The Legacy is 68 minutes of pure symphonic progressive genius and a must for fans of the group and this music in general. Flamborough Head put more ideas into one song than many put into an album. Top Notch. / "Flamborough Head" sind auf dem richtigen Weg, die Jungs aus dem Land der Tulpen prasentieren mit "Defining the Legacy" einen mehr als wurdigen Nachfolger und konnten sich schon bald in die obere Progliga befinden. / Flamborough Head is for me absolutely the best Dutch Symphonic Rock band. I use the term Symphonic Rock on purpose. The music on this album is mainly keyboard oriented. But there are also delicious guitar parts. The music has a great variation in rhythms and atmospheres. This album will appear in my top 10 list of the year 2000. And as a Dutch citizen I am very proud to have such a good band in Holland. / A great legacy indeed from one of the leading contemporary melodic, symphonic bands, something to treasure for years to come! /
After Siebe Rein Schaaf and Andre Cents left the band we were very lucky to find two excellent and experienced musicians who were willing to join Flamborough Head. Margriet Boomsma replaced Siebe Rein on vocals and Eddie Mulder Andre Cents on guitar and backing vocals. Margriet also plays flute, tin whistle and flutes which broadens the sound of Flamborough Head into new directions. Eddie is a very capable acoustic guitarist so it's obvious the sound of Flamborough Head is changing a bit. The new line up worked very hard on the new album which was recorded in the autumn of 2001. Cyclops will release this album early 2002 and it will be titled "One For The Crow". All music written by Eddie Mulder and Edo Spanninga, arranged by Flamborough Head. In 1997 Flamborough Head organised Progfarm for the first time, a small progressive rockfestival in Bakkeveen, a village in the north of The Netherlands. So far there were four highly succesfull ("This festival looks like becoming the major festival on the European scene") editions Progfarms, featuring Grey Lady Down (UK), Odyssice (NL), Lyonesse (NL), Cliffhanger (NL), No Name (Luxembourg), Sinister Street (NL), Big Big Train (UK), Twin Age (UK), Regenesis (UK), Lady Lake (NL), Janison Edge (UK), Gnidrolog (UK), Sinkadus (Sweden), Sylvan (Germany), Xang (France), Everon (Germany), Mostley Autumn (UK) and of course our band Flamborough Head (NL). In 2001 Parallel or 90 Degrees, Karnataka, Primitive Instinct, Salmon and Flamborough Head are on the line up.
